Reminiscence and Resource Centre

Children living on the Bata Estate were able to attend the Bata School for a fee. This school was known for it's discipline and should the Head Mistress, Miss Richardson, enter a room the girls were required to curtsey whilst the boys would bow. Many young men were trained by the Bata Shoe Company in the skills needed to make shoes, after the takeover of the main works in Zlin by the Communists, training was done at East Tilbury and from here young men were sent around the world to manage Bata Factories.
The Bata Organisation also provided College facilities where young men were trained in the art of Shoe Making. These young men came from all over the Country and were trained in either the Leather or Rubber side of the industry. Once again the sporting facilities were important and many of these young men went on to play for the Companies first team in various sports.
