Representing the subsidiary group on the Accident Prevention Committee is Foreman W (Wally) Osborne. With 15 years’ service to his credit, Foreman Osborne admits this is the first time he has served on the committee and regrets that he was not appointed before. “I have always thought how useful the committee was,” he told Bata Record. “I think it does one of the most useful jobs of any of the committees we have at East Tilbury and I thinks as many people as possible out of each section of the factory should have a chance to represent their respective departments, floor or group. In that way we shall eventually have a whole factory full of workers who are safety who are safety conscious and have learned from their experience on the Committee how to avoid accidents and help others to avoid them as well. That the work of the committee is bearing fruit is shown by the relatively low accident rate which British Bata enjoys at East Tilbury.
“I hope that anyone in Group 200 who has any ideas about the safety of workers and their machines will always come and see me so that I can either help them at once myself or take the matter to the Committee.”
