I joined the Company in 1946 as a driver, which job I had for 13 years and I was promoted to freight and yard foreman. In 1956 I was asked to take my vehicle loaded with items from BDL to the paint factory at Hellacourt for the conference for all Bata companies. On my return I continued with my normal shop deliveries until 1958 when another trip was arranged this time to Molin, in Switzerland where my stay was for approximately 3 weeks, which was very interesting as I was asked to attend the meeting as a spotlight operator and was very surprised at all that went on.
As I was the only driver with a vehicle there I was asked to move goods to the conference hall after they had been cleared by Customs by the task force from each of the world companies, so felt in a small way I had worked for each other company. On my return to East Tilbury I carried on driving until my promotion in 1959.
