Playing the part of “Sunshine”, co-assistant with “Widow Twankey” in Widow Twankey’s laundry,is Hilda Vassie, who has had several years stage experience, 15 of them with Redmayes Repertory Company, London, for whom she appeared as various characters in a wide variety of productions.
One of her most successful roles was that of Portia in a Gravesend production of the Merchant of Venice, and Bata workers will remember the true-to-life representation she gave of Queen Elizabeth I in “Coronation Cavalcade”.
With her long experience of acting, speaking and general stage technique - she first appeared at the age of three as “January Face” in a play of that name - Hilda enlivens the amusing character of “Sunshine” , and reveals that she is as accomplished in light comedy roles as she is in more serious ones.
