After three months in charge of production at the Bata Factory at Baghdad, Mr R Milledge was at East Tilbury, on Monday , having successfully completed his mission in Iraq.
He told Bata Record, “It was a most interesting and worthwhile experience and one in which I could not fail to learn both about men and about shoemaking.

“All the same I am more than happy to return to East Tilbury and get back to work among people I know. The climate was a little trying at first but I soon got used to the heat and the sunshine.

“The standards of craftsmanship are not the same as ours and the labour regulations entirely different and took quite a bit of understanding.”
