The hard work and diligence of Mr Alfred Elstob have earned him big promotions since he first worked with the Company as shopmanager of the Bata shoe store at Leigh. After nearly a year's service in the retail side of the business he came to work as checker on Department 422 in November, 1936. In just over eight months he was promoted to foreman of the same department, and early in 1938 visited the factory in Zlin to learn all about the stuck-on-sole process. When he returned he introduced this new process to East Tilbury workshops. Mr Elstob made further progress when he was promoted to chief examiner of the Leather Factory in August of last year, and four months afterwards he was appointed floor-manager. He is one of the three floor-managers who control all the assembly departments of the Leather Factory.
Mr Elstob lives on the Bata Estate at 74 Queen Elizabeth Avenue and has a daughter born at the end of last year.
