Clem Pashley began working in the factory's building department in September 1935, when he was engaged as a draughtsman. His work was tracing and drawing building plans; controlling wages and piece work rate; dealing with contractors' works, especially in connection with the erection of Community House.
In January, 1937, Mr Pashley took charge of a section of the building department, dealing with all factory maintenance work. He also controlled the finishing of the main sewerage, connecting the factory with the new sewerage plant.
During the early part of 1938 he had to estimate for all building work and was responsible for negotiations with the local council authorities.
In October 1938, Mr Pashley was promoted to be manager of the whole building department. Now he is directing completion of the new five-storey rubber factory and the erection of new houses on the estate.
