Mr Clifford Brooks joined the Company when he was twenty years of age. He began in April 1935 as an assistant clerk in the leather factory office but his adaptability and knowledge of figures earned him early promotion when he was made assistant bookkeeper in August of the same year.
Early in 1936 he became bookkeeper to the catering department and it was during this time that Community House was built and the dining hall and other sections moved into their new quarters.
During the managers' absence, Mr Brooks often assisted in the management of the dining hall and the housing section. He was connected to this section more than a year before he joined the general book-keeping department to control the Elliott-Fisher section.
He remained there until this new half year when he took over the management of the housing sections and the book-keeping of all Mr Lamb's group Departments 800 - 900 which will include several of the catering sections, Bata Record, Bata Cinema and Bata Farm.
Also notable among his conquests is that which culminated in his marriage to Miss Irene Petchey during the annual holidays.
August 25th 1939.
