14th July 1939
Mr E A Taylor joined the retail side of our organisation as a shopmanager at the end of 1935.
His first assignment was managing Chelmsford shop and it was soon evident that he was cut out for a better job. Probably, few managers have worked more conscientiously and successfully than Mr Taylor at Chelmsfor shop. He soon won the liking and confidence and respect of hundreds of people in a cathedral town, which is acknowledged to be a very difficult locale for developing a new business.
Then he went to the Midlands in November, 1936, to superintend the sales in the Birmingham area and proved himself a go-ahead inspector.
He remained in the North for nearly two years and his enthusiastic work there was rewarded early in 1939 with the group inspectorship of all the Northern districts, which position he holds today.
