This week we feature in this column a popular sportsman and fellow-worker from the leather factroy, Mr Frank Maltby. He joined the Company in March, 1936 and served a training period in Department 487. there he learned many operations in the assembly section and in June, 1937 he went to Zlin for a course of instruction on all the machines and operations in the sewing department.
He remained abroad until August, 1938, when he returned to East Tilbury to take control of all the sewing departments in the leather fctory.
In this position Mr Maltby is responsible for keeping the assembly department supplied with finished uppers of all styles of leather and textile shoes. He is in charge of more than one hundred girls and machines.
Mr Maltby has also made a name for himself on the cricket field and was elected captain of the Bata team for this season. He is also a keen supporter of the dramatic and cine sections of the sports club, taking an active part in all their productions.
