When George Etheridge joined the Company he worked in the engineers where the cutting knives are made. He was later transferred to the wooden heels department where he did wood cutting until he joined Department 487 in September, 1935 to learn heel lasting.
During the next year he learnt other operations besides heel lasting and worked on several departments. In July of 1936 he was selected to visit Zlin with several other operators from the leather factory to learn more about the production of welted shoes.
On his return, he was made an instructor on the department that produced the welted shoes until he was promoted to examiner in November, 1937.
After ten months checking he was again promoted, this time to foreman of Department 431, and he is still managing the department that makes monolit shoes and men's rubber-soled boots.
