For the first time since its inception this series features a female fellow-worker - Miss Gladys Waters, forewoman of the leather factory's sample department.
Miss Waters has had a long and varied experience of the sewing departments. Since she first began working in the factory in November, 1933, she has learned to work every type of machine in the sewing sections.
She first started stitching linings in Department 431 and from there she was transferred to joining on Department 421. During a long stay in this department she had practical experience of skiving, stitching vamps, binding and stitching decorations as well as controlling.
In July, 1937, she was made forewoman in the same department and during 1938 she was transferred to forewoman of the sample section.
In the sample department, Miss Waters' job is by no means an easy one. There, they are continually changing the type of shoes and experimenting with new styles. It is often Mis Waters' job to find the quickest and most economical method of stitching uppers for new shoes.
