Henry Joseph Mulcock, at the age of 20, came to work in the Rubber Factory as a waist-laster on Department 321 in February 1934. Within the year he was promoted to checker on Department 323 and a few months afterwards he became foreman of the same department.
Hard work saw Mr Mulcock top foreman for many weeks and continual good results culminated in his promotion to chief foreman in July, 1935. On the nineteenth of the same month he was sent to Zlin for training in the production of "tramp" shoes (better known to us as baseball boots). When he returned from Zlin he started production on this type of rubber shoe on Department 325 - the first time at Tilbury.
Mr Mulcock has been chief foreman ever since he went to Zlin and in the past three years has been of great help to other rubber factory foremen, giving them the benefit of his practical knowledge and deputising for them in their absence. Since he started with the Company Mr Mulcock married and settled down on Bata Estate at 7 Queen Elizabeth Avenue, and he looks forward to a happy and successful career at East Tilbury.
