When Jack Greenwood joined the factory in October, 1933 he served a training period on the school department of the leather factory before being transferred to staple-tacking on Department 432. Later he learned sole-levelling and moved to Department 422.
He soon proved himself efficient at several operations. He was enthusiastic and eager to learn and in 1935 he was selected to visit Zlin to gain more experience.
Soon after his return to East Tilbury he made foreman of Department 425 engaged on the production of slippers and crepe sole sandals.
He controlled this department until last year when he was put in charge of Department 423 to produce men's welted shoes.
His success in this Department is reflected by the fact that he won the recent leather factory assembly competition and has attended the managers' luncheon conference as top foreman eight times this half year.
