Joe Matthews began work in the offices of the Company in February, 1934 when he was 24 years of age. He started in the book-keeping department of 1202 and was then transferred to the Rubber Factory Office.
His keen interest in manipulation of rubber took him to Department 301 and he was soon promoted to foreman of that department.
He then worked under Mr Seget, manager of the manipulation departments and became an understudy to him, learning all section of the manipulation . He gained considerable experience in heel pressing, the calenders, and all processes of the compounds.
Last year he was married and soon afterward received promotion, taking Mr Seget’s place when he returned to Zlin. Now he is the hard-working manger of the whole of the rubber manipulation departments.
