For the second time since this series began we feature a female fellow-worker. She is Miss Kathleen Thorne and although she has not yet reached her twenties she has worked for the Company for more than five years and has been a forewoman for nearly four years.
Soon after she left school at the age of fourteen, Miss Thorne clocked on at the factory gate for the first time, on January 1, 1934. During her first year on Department 321 in the rubber factory she learnt practically all the operations on the sewing section and because of her thorough knowledge of these jobs, Miss Thorne was promoted forewoman at the early age of fifteen.
Ever since then she has been in charge of many different sewing sections and has had practical experience of the production of all type of shoes and uppers.
At present, Miss Thorne is forewoman on Department 322 where she trains new workers to use the various machines in the sewing section.
