One of the first men to join the factory was Maurice White who came to East Tilbury soon after the Company began building here.
He started in June, 1933, as a wages clerk and he showed such an aptitude for the work, that he was promoted to chief wages clerk at the end of the year.
After twelve months in his new job, he visited Zlin to increase his knowledge of the Bata system of accounting and he remained abroad for nearly fifteen months.
On his return to East Tilbury he was put in charge of the control department of the book-keeping section.
In February, 1938, he took over the duties of secretary to Mr V E Schmidt and also acted as secretary to the Management Advisory Committee.
Exactly a year later he moved to the retail department to the position of hosiery sales promoter, and he has lately taken control of the hosiery buying.
