October 6th 1939
This week we have devoted this column to the story of Mr Nelson Titcombe's rapid rise to the important position of group inspector in the retail department.
Mr Titcombe joined the Company in January, 1938 and after a preliminary training period, took over the managership of the Hounslow Bata shoe store. His go-ahead spirit and enthusiasm in his new shop marked him for early promotion and in August of last year he was made inspector of District 533.
It was soon apparent that he was making a success of his new job and the shops in his South London district were showing improved results. Mr Titcombe stayed in this district for the best part of a year until last May when he was promoted to group inspector. He now controls all the shops in the North London area and under his capable leadership the managers are steadily increasing their turnovers.
