Robert Cecil Milledge joined the factory over five years ago, when he was eighteen years of age. During the first year he worked as a laster on Department 432 until, in September 1934, he was transferred to Department 422 to learn pounding. He showed considerable initiative and was selected, with a few others from the Leather Factory, to visit Zlin to learn how to last welted shoes.
After six months at the parent factory, Milledge returned as an instructor on Department 487. During 1937 he worked on Departments 421 and 423 until July when he was promoted to checker on Department 487. His practical knowledge of pounding; heel, toe and waist lasting; and sole attaching served him well in his new postion.
At the beginning of the new half-year Mr Milledge was promoted to foreman of the Leather Factory sample department, a job which he has earned by hard and conscientious work.
Mr Milledge was married during the last annual holiday and lives in King George VI avenue on the Bata estate.
