When Mr Stanley Gillion came to work at East Tilbury in November, 1933, his first job was cutting leather on a clicking press in Department 401. He was there for two years before being transferred to tracing uppers in the textile manipulation department.
After a short while he was again transferred to tracing on bottom leather in the stockroom but his knowledge of leather soon marked him for early promotion and he was later made stock-keeper.
Just over a year as stock-keeper saw him again prom oted to buyer of bottom leather and he still holds that position. On Saturday last he attended the managers' lluncheon-conference as topy buyer with the best result in the buying section.
