Although Mr E Ralph has long been con nected with the rubber factory, he actually started work with the Company in the leather factory. He came to East Tilbury on the first day of the year 1934 and after a short period in the leather factory, he was transferred to Department 301 of the rubber factory. His first job was on the clicking presses but the same year he moved to the milling section of the same department. His next move took him to the five-bowl calendar and his hard work in that department when he was promoted to foreman of the section.
He remained in the manipulation factory for nearly two years until he was transferred to the assembly departments. In a short while he was made a foreman of Department 322 where new workers are trained in the various assembly operations.
Mr Ralph's task in this department is of the utmost importance. He must see that new employees are fully trained and efficient at their respective operations so that they will always be ready to subsequent vacancies on the other conveyors.
