His nephew remembers him coming round to say goodbye to his sister before going off to war, he never came home again.
He died on Monday 24th July 1944 aged 30 years. He had been slightly wounded on D-Day and was being taken to a Base Hospital in a Jeep Ambulance when the vehicle was destroyed by a direct hit.
